You ARE Special…

Have you ever sat back and just looked around at the façade that the world presents to us every day?

If we were to believe in all the advertising, marketing, and propaganda that is shoved in our faces, it would be an amazing thing that we retained our sanity long enough to grow up. :-)

Nothing is ever good enough and no one is ever just right. The world tells us that everything needs to be faster, better, smaller, etc. Every person needs to shape up and get with the program, be tanned, fit, and have a bright and shiny smile.

It seems to me that the world is trying to eradicate the individual. We all need to be at the same level of mediocre in order for everyone to be happy.

Look at our schools…the teachers are forced to teach at the rate of the slowest (dumbest) child. Sorry, but if you’re a parent, you’ll agree. There are dumb kids out there. No offense.

So we end up frustrating the hell out of the actual smart kids that don’t need 101 explanations of basic math before they figure it out.

In business, there isn’t supposed to be a difference between sex, color, religion, intelligence, etc. We are all to look the same when viewed by the management glasses.

Unfortunately…or rather, fortunately…the people of the world are all unique. We are all individuals. Special in our own rights.

The world isn’t a place of uniform grey and common mediocrity. It’s a place of vibrant and beautiful colors. Where each person is blessed with individual talents, dreams, and desires.

Every person alive is beautiful in some way. And we are all special and precious. That’s just the way it is, regardless of what anyone else wants to tell you.

What is truly sad to me is that in order to provide for yourself and your family, you need to attempt to “fit in”. What an awful concept. So take your rounded sides and stuff them into a square hole. Learn not to complain and we’ll find a place for you in the great machine of life.

I say NO. In fact…I say HELL NO!

But it’s up to us, as individuals to find that special uniqueness that’s inside and foster it, grow it, make it into the biggest and best blessing you might have in life. Find your own groove and by all means…dance to it!

Often, the world wants you to think that being unique is not a good thing. You might make someone else feel bad if you found and expressed your own uniqueness.

I think that’s just too damn bad then. Now, I’m not saying that you should be mean about it; in fact, I’ll encourage you to lift up all the people around you and help THEM find their specialness too.

See…the world isn’t a place to hide who we are from each other; it’s a place where each and every soul should be able to reflect the myriad colors that come from everyone else in their life.

So, today…make yourself a promise to let your own colors shine and refuse to blanket yourself in that dull grey. Skip when you go somewhere, sing a song out loud, draw a picture, laugh A LOT! Ask the question why, and try to answer it for yourself. Look into your heart and see what it is that makes you happy…and by God DO IT!

Happiness isn’t something that just comes along into your life…it’s something that comes from inside you and makes life a better and brighter place to be.

“’sok?” “’sok.”
“’salright?” “’salright.”

You go, Brandon. You are absolutely right about everything working toward mediocrity. If we all live inside the same boxes, and those boxes are controlled, *we* are easier to control. The world has been running in that direction for a long time, but there have to be those of us who resist it. Wear red, I say! With purple and pink. =) And plaids with dots, too.
