What this World needs…

“What this world needs
Is not another one hit wonder with an axe to grind
Another two bit politician peddling lies
Another three ring circus society
What this world needs
Is not another sign waving super saint that's better than you
Another ear pleasing candy man afraid of the truth
Another prophet in an Armani suit”
Casting Crowns – What This World Needs

We all have our own ideas about what would make our world a better place. I’m betting that most of those ideas have something to do with “Can’t we all just get along?” :-)

Now, I have my own beliefs, and I’m not going to preach them here. Rather, I’d like to give you a thought to ponder.

What this World needs…is YOU.

See, I think that we are all born with a purpose. Something that we CAN and are SUPPOSED to do. It may be something as simple as being a great parent and raising amazing kids. It could be that you are here to help people, lead a country, or even travel to the moon and back. Whatever it is, it’s yours to fulfill.

Now, sure, you may be sitting there thinking, I don’t believe in that. It’s sounding like destiny or God’s plan or whatever and I just don’t believe that life works that way. OK…how about this then. You’re here to pass on YOUR certain set of genes to a new generation and show them how to make the most of that.

Personally, I think that we’re more than just a higher form of reactive animal life. I think that the potential inside each and every person is damn near unlimited. You CAN be whatever you want to be. It’s just up to YOU to do it! :-)

But what do I really mean when I say that the World needs you?

I think that we’ve been born when and where we are for a reason. Even if you think it’s just simple biology, OK, you’re parents had to get there first, and their parents before them. All so that you can be here and now.

You are more than just basic animal responses. You have the potential to change, grow, become more than you started as, even if you’re just starting right now. There isn’t another animal on the planet that can do that. A dog will never be more than just a dog. You can be more than just you right now.

And really, the World needs you right now. Look around. Think we’re starting to fall to pieces? Probably. :-) And you are the only one that has the ability to affect YOUR life, thoughts, feelings, and spirit. No one else can be you and do it. It comes down to you. And by you being the best you can be, you will see miraculous things happen.

You will inspire others to do and be more; you will be happier and more loving and friendly. You just won’t be able to help it. You will live better, feel better, think clearer, and everyone will see it. In your personal part of the World, life and everything associated to it will improve. In your sphere of influence, you’ll help to stem the tide and maybe even build the World into a better place.

So, tell me, what would happen if EVERYONE was the best they could be? Think our World would be on the brink of disaster? That’s a duh question if I ever heard one.

Now buck up! Tighten your belt and shoulder your pack. Let’s make the most of each day and make this day better than the last.

And when you get to where you’re standing in the sunshine all the time, look to your right, I’ll be the one playin on the beach laughin. :-)

Discovering the Truth within…

"The truth will set you free. But first, it will piss you off."
- Gloria Steinem

We are all on a journey. Some of us are simply walking along from the beginning to the end, with no care or concern of the path or scenery in between. Some of us bounce from path to path as the wind and trend blows them. And a few of us, those adventurous and dedicated souls, walk with open eyes, taking in the world around them and learning, growing, and enjoying the journey as a whole.

Sometimes, however, we get stuck in our journey, Perhaps we decide to sit for a moment and can’t seem to get started again. Or perhaps we stop and start again on a different path, one that isn’t as good for us as the previous one we were on. What do we do then? How do we get ourselves back on the right path?

I think that one of the most common problems that we run into is that we sometimes ignore, run from, or outright deny ourselves the truth. I will admit that the truth isn’t always the warm fuzzy that we hope it is. It is very true; truth WILL piss you off first. Especially truths about ourselves.

Those are the most difficult truths to see and accept. Most of us like to think the best where we are concerned. Often, we don’t even see those personal truths. And we certainly don’t want to hear them from anyone else. I know that for me, I have to hear it several times before I can REALLY hear it.

So, knowing that the discovery of personal truths is one of the most difficult tasks you can ever undertake, and one where the goal is often out of reach, how CAN you find those truths and accept them so you can grow past them?

Ahh…see, that’s where your friends come into play. :-)

“It is one of the severest tests of friendship to tell your friend his faults. So to love a man that you cannot bear to see a stain upon him, and to speak painful truth through loving words, that is friendship.”
- Henry Ward Beecher

Now think about your life for a moment. Do you HAVE any friends that good? Do you have ANYONE in your life that strong?

If you’re like most people, the answer is probably no. Often, friendships end quickly when personal truths are revealed. We simply don’t want to hear it and often hold it against the person telling us.

If you do have friends like that, how often do you share truths? Are you constantly asking for them from your friends in order to be a better person?

Ha Ha…somehow I doubt anyone is constantly asking for it. Our fragile psyches probably couldn’t handle it. But you get the idea.

Our friends help to keep us on the right path. They help pick us up when we fall down. They keep us sane when everything around us seems SO insane. Our good friends keep an eye on us and aren’t afraid to tell us when we’re drifting from our path, or even just being an ass.

Life is a journey. Everyone ends up at the same destination. In order for us to have a happy, enjoyable life, we have to be able to lift our heads and look around. Wave at the other people on the same journey. Actually see the beauty that surrounds us everywhere. And laugh with those that walk beside us. Sometimes even AT the ones walking beside us. :-)

Don’t be afraid to find your own truths. They only make you a better person in the end.
